St. Patty's Day Dinner: Guinness Stew

A few years ago, my friend Jen gave me an awesome recipe for Guinness Stew.
This is my go-to meal for St. Patrick's Day.
Kevin and I are both 25% Irish, but neither of us like Corned Beef and Cabbage, so this is the perfect alternative!
This is what you need:
2lbs stew meat
1 chopped onion
1/2 lb sliced mushrooms
1/3 Cup Flour
1 TBSP Garlic powder
1 cup Guinness beer
1 cup beef broth
1 TBS. brown sugar
pinch of nutmeg
Salt & Pepper
Olive Oil

Put flour, garlic powder, salt & pepper, nutmeg, brown sugar in a gallon ziplock.
Shake. Add the stew meat to the bag & shake again so it is coated.
Brown the meat in a pot with olive oil.
Add onions & saute for 2-3 minutes.
Add Beer, beef broth & mushrooms to the pot.
Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer gently for 1-2 hours or until meat is tender.
(I always transfer to a crock pot on low instead of simmering on the stove)
I serve over hot mashed potatoes.
I make "Smashed & Loaded" Potatoes in honor of the Irish ;)

And, of course you need Irish Soda Bread on St. Patty's Day!
I use THIS recipe. I always spread my Homemade Strawberry Jam on the bread. So good!

I serve our St. Patty's Day meal with some sort of green vegetable....peas, broccoli or roasted brussel sprouts. It's St. Patty's Day, there needs to be some green!
Don't forget the green beer!

This is a delicous and easy meal and a great alternative if you don't like Corned Beef & Cabbage!
Do you have an Irish meal on St. Patty's Day?
Enjoy & Happy St. Patty's Day!

  4. I tried a corned beef & cabbage soup last year that was really yummy!

This looks delic also. And I love that you are drinking green beer. SO doing that too!

  6. love soda bread! I'm not a corned beef and cabbage girl here so I'm making a shepherds pie.

..HaHa!) Great job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
