Apple(s) of my Eye

Fall is just around the corner!
And, do you know what that means in our backyard?
Apples!
We have 2 apple trees & I always love it when September rolls around because that means it is time to pick all the apples off our apple trees!
Kate has been looking forward to this for the past few months. Every 2 weeks this summer we would pick one apple off the tree to see if they were "ready" yet.
This weekend, they were ready! And, we wanted to pick them now since it is supposed to be 100 degrees for the next 4 days!!! YUCK! I am SO ready for fall.
September always seems to be the hottest month of the year here in California. For us, fall doesn't usually start until mid-October (which makes me sad because Fall is my most favorite season EVER!!)
The girls had fun watching us pick the apples off the tree & putting them in the basket, even Claire helped!
Claire kept taking all the apples out of the basket.
Yes, those are apples on Claire's pants (hand me downs from Kate).
They are her apple picking pants!
Claire was all about the apples, she thought they were a toy.
Hmmmm.....what is this?
Kate was telling Claire to count the apples with her.
These apples are "hea-by" (heavy)
Kate didn't need Claire's help picking up the basket, she wanted to do it "ALL MY SELF!"
Picking apples is hard work, so Kate takes a break.
Kate kept taking all the apples out of the basket, lining them up & counting them.
One, Two, Three, Four, Five.........
Six, Seven, Eight.....
Nine and Ten!
This one's my favorite!
mmmm....
She reminds me of the witch in Snow White in the next 2 pictures.
"You want an apple little girl?"

See? An Apple!
We had the 2 cutest apple picking helpers today!
I can't wait to make my yummy Apple Cake with these!
We got a huge stash of apples!
The apples are PERFECT for baking (hello apple crisp & apple cake!)
I don't know what I am going to do with all these apples! I will be making my favorite apple cake this week, but that only calls for 3 apples. We have a several bags of apples!
There are only so many apple crisps, apple pies & apple cakes that one can make!
If you live near me and are reading this (Becky, Wendy, Kelly, Heather, Kristin, etc) and want some apples, let me know! I will glady give some to you!

  4. Beautiful pictures! I so feel your pain about Fall starting late where you live. I am in Texas and it doesn't cool down here until mid October either. I so wish it would start earlier.

  5. I'm so jealous you have your very own apple trees! My mother-in-law makes apple sauce and cans them. It's the most amazing and FRESH applesauce, with no sugar added. I think she has a food mill to do so, but might be worth the purchase with the amount of apples you have!

  6. I can't wait to take Mason to Apple Hill this year! My dad has an apple tree too, so we just made a big batch of apple sauce... peel your apples, cut them up and put in the slow cooker with a stick of cinnamon with a little water, cook on low all day and you're done! Super easy and very yummy. :)
