Converted.

When it comes to fashion, I am a pretty basic.
I am no frills, pretty simple & sometimes boring.
I try to appear pulled together & not look like a frumpy mom.
I buy most of my clothes at Target (expect when I have the occasional Nordstrom gift card)
I remember almost 2 years ago when the whole skinny jeans & boot thing first came out.
I said on several occasions,
"NO WAY am I EVER wearing skinny jeans and NO WAY am I ever wearing boots over skinny jeans!"
Well, this past winter, I fell victim to this fashion trend.
And, I LOVE it.
Please note, Exhibit "A"
{Skinny jeans & Uggs. I rocked this look almost every weekend during the cold months!}

And here we have Exhibit "B"
{Another pair of skinny jeans (which I really think are jeggings based on their material) with boots. You would never know I was someone who hated this look 2 years ago because I literally wear skinny jeans & boots at least 3 times a week. Sometimes more.}

This brings me to my next point...just a few months ago, I was talking to a friend about how I have been "converted" to the skinny jean/boot fan club, but that is as far as it would go.....I would NEVER wear skinny jeans with ballet flats. EVER.
Umm...Look what I wore today:
Confession:
The past month, the weather has been warmer and I haven't been wearing boots as much.
This wasn't the first time I have sported this combo.
And, I have a feeling this won't be the last time!
I am officially converted.
Any other late converts out there?

Our Lazy Spring Break + A Winner!

Last week was our Spring Break, also known as "Wedding Recovery Week"
We didn't have any big plans over Spring Break because I knew that we would be exhausted from all the wedding festivities. I can't tell you how glad I was that we had nothing planned....I was so tired, that we didn't even leave the house until Wednesday!!
Can I tell you how nice it was to just lounge around at home?
On Monday we stayed in our pj's all day long.
The weather was gorgeous, so we hung out in the backyard enjoying the sunshine and painting.
I pretty much drank coffee and Diet Coke all day long because I was so tired.
Then I had a mental breakdown on Monday night. Sorry about that Kevin. Yikes.
Tuesday was another pajama day (I told you it was a lazy break)
We made The Pioneer Woman's Maple Pecan Scones. Claire is really starting to be helpful in the kitchen.
The scone recipe is in her cookbook, this is what they looked like before I put on the amazing maple icing. YUM!
Wednesday we actually got dressed & left the house in the afternoon for a playdate with Maddie & Nicole.
When we got home the girls wanted to go swimming, but it was too cold, so they just played hopscotch inside in their bathing suits.
Thursday we had another playdate at Wendy's house. But I didn't take any pictures!
Friday the girls picked out their own outfits & we spent another day playing outside enjoying the sun.
I am loving Claire's outfit...brown socks with black shoes is stylin!
So, there you have it...our super lazy & unproductive Spring Break!
I had a to-do list that I wanted to get done over Spring Break, like:
clean out closets,
get caught up on laundry,
organize bins of clothes in the garage,
organize our food pantry,
deep clean our house,
do Easter crafts with the girls,
...etc.
Did I get any of it done? NOPE!
We were a little more productive on Saturday when Kevin got the play structure set up from our friends. Gotta love free stuff! We spent a few hours staining the wood & it looks as good as new!
The girls love playing on it. I have a feeling this play structure is going to be the cause of our first ER visit.

Let's end on some randomness:
Here is what the back of my hair looked like for the wedding. I loved it & I didn't take it out until the day after the wedding:
Also for the wedding, I got a shellac manicure. I haven't gotten a manicure in years, but decided to get one for the wedding. Shellac manicures are a new type of manicure & I can't believe how long it has lasted!!
Check it out:
And, I finally picked a winner for my giveaway!

The winner was #53
Congrats, Jessica!

10 on 10 :: April 2011

Ten on Ten: 10 pictures on the 10th day of the month!
{Document a snapshot of your life & find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}

Today was my last day of Spring Break. *sigh*
Our day started out rushed as both girls slept in until 8:30, but then we had to rush to get to church because I was helping in Claire's Sunday School classroom!
It was a beautiful April day....the hills are still as green as ever, but I know that as the weather warms up & summer approaches, they will start turning brown.
On our way home from church, Kate shows me the art that she made at Sunday School...God's got the whole world in His hands!
The girls having lunch in their new (to us) swing set that some family friends gave us! Kevin & I spent yesterday afternoon staining the wood...it looks as good as new and the girls are thrilled to have a "park" in their backyard!
While taking advantage of the beautiful weather & the girls keeping busy on the play structure, I got to plant some of my annuals. I love zinnias!
We headed to Fairyland for our neighbor's 3rd birthday party.
Kate's favorite part of Fairyland was the funny mirrors!
Kevin building my garden boxes! I can't wait to have a garden in our backyard. Can I get an Amen for home grown tomatoes & veggies!?!?
Our late lunch/early dinner....chicken burritos (I need to post this chicken burrito recipe mixture...so easy! You make it in the crock pot with cream cheese, black beans, corn & rotel. Yum!)
And, a bonus, Kate really wanted to take this picture of me & the necklace she made at Sunday School:
Hope you had a great 10th!
We are off to give the girls baths and have an early bedtime since Spring Break is over & our normal schedule resumes bright & early tomorrow morning!

Edited at 10:30 pm to add:
One of the *many* reasons I love participating in 10 on 10 is to look back on previous years to see what we were doing a year ago on the same day. Tonight, I looked back on April 10, 2010 and it was the day we moved out of our old house & we temporarily moved in with my parents because we hadn't found a new house to buy yet! What a difference a year makes!
