What's Up Wednesday :: August 2017

What's Up Wednesday is usually the last Wednesday of the month, but because of Hurricane Harvey, we decided to postpone it to this week.

Link up with  me, Sheaffer & Shay the LAST Wednesday of each month so we can read about What's Up with YOU!

Here we go!
What We’re Eating this week.....
Monday: We had a Labor Day BBQ at our house. The guys on our court had their fantasy football draft and then we had everyone back to our house for a BBQ dinner.
For an appetizer I made my 7 layer Greek Hummus Dip
We served Tri Tip, 3 types of Sausage, Caprese Orzo Salad, Spinach Strawberry Salad, Corn on the Cob  & Watermelon.
For dessert I made my Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Tuesday: Chicken Apple Sausages, Kale Salad & Caprese Orzo Salad
Wednesday:
Leftover Tri-Tip & Greek Tortellini Pasta Salad

Thursday: Teriyaki Chicken Kabobs and Avocado, Bacon, Corn Salad:
Friday: Claire's Birthday Party...she wants pizza of course :)

I am also making my Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins  this week because I have an entire bunch of bananas that turned brown this weekend thanks to the 110 degree heat wave we had. UGH!

This is one of my favorite nights of the year!
15 year Anniversary Trip to Half Moon Bay
 and of course....School Started!

What I'm Dreading.....
Now that school has started, I am dreading grading homework & tests.
I am also dreading my kids homework...one of my girls loves homework & one does not.

I'm totally dreading the homework battle everyday after school. UGH.
What I'm Working On.....
Claire's 9th Birthday Luau Pool Party is this Friday, so far I have made some of the food labels.
Here are the cookies I ordered for the favors...aren't they cute?
I love that the cookies are actually from Hawaii!
Speaking of Hawaii....I still need to blog about our trip to Maui that we took in July.
Need to work on that blog post :)

What I'm Watching........
How I Met Your Mother reruns on Netflix
I forgot how much I love this show. We have been watching it each night before bed.
It's the perfect show to tide us over until Fall TV starts back up.

Bring on FALL TV!!!! Just a few weeks away!!!

What I'm Reading.....
I only read ONE book in August. FAIL.
Summerland
It was pretty good...I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Last week I started Into the Water
She is author of Girl on the Train. I am only about 100 pages into this book so far, I'm having a hard time getting into it. Who else has read it?

What I'm Listening to.....
Pandora's Top Hits
Currently loving "There's Nothing Holding me Back" by Shawn Mendes

What I'm Wearing.....
Now that school is back in session, I am wearing actual clothes rather than running/workout clothes/swimsuit that I wore pretty much all summer :)

I've gotten a couple cute shirts from Stitch Fix

Shirt (  Stitch Fix )  // Jeans // Shoes // Earrings

Shirt ( Stitch Fix  )  // Cardigan //  Jeans  // Shoes // Earrings

I've also been wearing a lot of dresses! I love dresses :)
Whenever I wear a dress to school, I usually pair it with a denim jacket.
My favorite is THIS denim jacket. I wear it at least once a week.

It comes in 3 shades of denim, the one above (which I have) and these 2 colors:

It is perfect to wear with a cute dress & it is works in any season!
It is great to wear when the weather is chilly in the morning...it's all about layers!

What I’m doing this weekend.....
Claire's 9th Birthday Party Friday Night
Claire's actual Birthday on Saturday
Wedding on Saturday Night
Soccer games & Soccer pictures Sunday
NFL starts on Sunday. Go Niners!

What I'm Looking Forward to next month.....
 My niece is getting married!
The girls are flower girls and Luke is the ring bearer.
Can't wait! It is going to be awesome!

What else is new.....
I posted this on my Friday Favorites a few days ago, this is my new bulletin board at school with Hashtag Class Rules.

I love them!

Question of the month is:
What are your best back to school lunch ideas and/or tips?
Clearly, I need a little help in this department...here is what my kids lunches look like:
They get the same thing pretty much everyday:
- Turkey sandwich on Hawaiian roll
- String Cheese
- Chips
- Granola Bar
 - Applesauce
- Cookie

So boring, right? But it's what they like, so I keep it simple.
They also eat all of it, so I am glad they don't waste food.
I have tried giving them other things....Bagel & Cream cheese, carrots & hummus, etc but they would complain. LOL. Their favorite is PB & J, but I don't allow them to bring them to school because I worry too much about kids with nut allergies, so they have PB & J on the weekends, summer lunch or as an after school snack.
Can't wait to see your ideas for school lunches!

The only lunch tip I have is that I make their lunches the night before. I am NOT a morning person, so I like to get everything prepped the night before. I make lunches,  have the kids lay out their outfits & get backpacks prepped...at night.
+++++++++++++

  1. Thanks for hosting! Do your co-workers in other departments still give homework? It is becoming a trend in Texas that they don't want us giving homework to students anymore - ugh - but I know math usually can get away with giving it.

  6. I read Into the Water and it was just ok. But then Amazon recommended "Behind Closed Doors" and it was a really suspenseful/dark quick read.
