Luke's 1st Haircut

Luke's hair has been looking a little shaggy for the past few months, but I just couldn't bring myself to get it cut until he was 1 year old.
The girls didn't get haircuts until they were about 2 and I know how much older kids look when they get their hair cut, so I wanted to hold out until he was 1.
When I was at the store the week of his birthday, one of the cashier's who was a teenager told me that my baby looked like Justin Bieber. That wasn't the first person who has told me that, Luke totally had the Biebs hair. Luke's hair has been getting so long that the girls were putting bows in it to keep it out of his face. Plus, Kevin was threatening to shave Luke's head if I didn't get it cut.
Yesterday was the big day. I didn't think much of it.
I wasn't emotional at all. Boys have short hair. No big deal.
{His first lock of hair}

But as she was cutting it, I noticed how much older Luke was starting to look and my heart started racing. He was looking like a big boy.
Then she finished up and put gel in his hair and I about died.
He was no longer a baby. He looked like a 3 year old.
Luke didn't cry during his haircut, but I did!!!

Who knew that getting a haircut would make him look so old?!?!?!
I wanted to cry.
She did a great job on his hair cut, but I can't believe how much older he looks.
I wish I would have just gotten him a little trim. Hindisight is always better.

Luke loves his hair cut.
Why didn't anyone warn me that when you give your  boy their first haircut it would make them turn into a little man?!?! I had girls first, I didn't know this info!!
I mean seriously. I do not have a baby anymore. I have an adorable TODDLER.
When I got him from his crib this morning, my heart jumped in my throat because I am not used to seeing such a big baby in the crib.
I know it's just hair, but I am eager for it to grow out a little bit so he doesn't look so old.
Bye Bye Baby. Hello Big Boy.
Sigh.

12 Months of Luke

Every month since Luke was born, on the 9th of each month, I would take a photo of him on his chair with his L pillow.

Here is a compilation of Luke during the past year on his chair!

Newborn:
1 month:
 2 months:
 3 months:
4 months:
5 months:
6 months:
7 months:
8 months:
 9 months:
 10 months:
 11 months:
 12 months:
He did not like sitting still for these pics. Here is what most of them looked like. Luke trying to escape.
He is a busy boy!
And, haircut this week. He has been called Justin Bieber 3 times in the past few days.

Do you take monthly pics of your babies during their first year?
{I did the same thing with Claire, click here to see, but not with Kate. Sorry, Kate}

Here are Luke's 1 year stats:
Weight: 21 lbs 11 oz (50th %)
Height:  31 inches (75th %)

Clothes 9-12 months
Diapers: Size 4, but when this package is gone, he is moving up to size 5 (which is funny because the girls were so tiny that the biggest size they got to was size 4 at age 2 & then were potty trained)

Awesome sleeper, 12 hours a night & 2 solid naps a day.

Has 12 teeth!!! 4 top, 4 bottom & all 4 molars are totally in. Crazy.

Took his first steps on July 29, and can walk across the room, but still prefers to crawl since it is faster for him.

Luke is totally weaned & drinking cows milk from a sippy cup.
We made it a year!
I loved nursing my kids and I proud that I nursed them all for a year and that none of them ever had a drop of formula (yay for saving $$$), BUT, I am SO glad I am done and I am thankful to never see a breast pump again, clean a bottle or be bitten :)
I will look back on nursing my babies with fondness. I am thankful they were all very good nursers & so thankful I had a great supply with all of them. BUT, at the same time I am soooooo happy to be done with that stage of my life. Can I get an Amen?

And, of course, the comparison pic:
In my opinion, Luke is still a combo of both girls.

Still can't believe my baby is ONE!
Thanks for all your sweet comments on his 1 year letter. Sorry I made some of you cry :)

Luke :: 11 Months Old

11 months.
Stop it.
I mean, seriously?!?!?
1 month until Luke turns ONE YEAR OLD?
I can't even wrap my head around this.
No. Just No.
I am usually gung-ho about planning their birthday parties.
I have been "planning" Luke's since he was born.
But, within the past 2 weeks, I can't get motivated to do planning for it because I am so sad he is turning One...in a month!!! Usually, a month before the party, I have the invites made, printed out and ready to be mailed out. I just started making his today, I am way behind schedule. Sigh.
Here are Luke's 10 month stats:
Weight: 19 lbs 10 oz (25th %)
Height: 29 inches (50th %)
Clothing: 6-9 months & 9-12 months
Diapers: Size 4
Sleeping:  12 hours a night!!  (And, takes 2 naps a day)
Teeth: 12 {4 bottom teeth and 4 top teeth and all 4 molars broke through this week!!} He has been a pretty good teether. It hasn't affected his sleeping (Thank you, Jesus!)
 Tricks:
Crawling! All over the place! Pulls to a stand & is so proud of himself.
Crusing along furniture. Can stand on his own for a few seconds.
Loves crawling up the stairs.
Mastered the sippy cup. No more bottles!!!
Also, I think he is going to be a lefty like Kevin & Kate. He uses his left hand for picking up food, etc. Only time will tell!
He says Dada, Mama, Hi and a bunch of other babbling noises.
He is always on the go, go, go.

 Food:
Loves his baby food. Hasn't met a food he doesn't like. Still nursing, but just once a day and I have introduced whole milk into his diet (I did this with the girls at 11 months also)  Has 3 "solid" meals a day, plus snacks. He is eating less and less jarred baby food, but more "real" food. I mean, he has TWELVE teeth. He can handle the chewing just fine.
Luke is still the happiest baby EVER.
Luke is always smiling and whenever we are out running errands or at events.
He loves smiling at people and is very social.
People always comment on what a happy & smiley baby he is.

And, of course, the comparrison.
I still think he is a combo of the girls.
Happy 11 months, Lukey Guy.
If you need me, I'll be hiding in a corner crying while drinking a bottle of wine.
Just Kidding. Kind of.

Luke :: 10 Months Old

TEN MONTHS OLD.
Double Digits.
I can't even handle that.
Seriously? 10 months?
I want to curl up in a ball & cry about it.
Know what else I could cry about?
Your hair. You need a hair cut.
Baaaaaad.
Also? It looks like you are wearing a horrible touppe.
I can say that, because I'm your mom.
The girls didn't get their hair cut until they were about 2.
I'm not used to this boy mom thing, so before your next monthly update, I will make sure you get a hair cut, because you are looking pretty Shaggy.
Luke is still the happiest baby EVVVVVEEERRRR.
#thankyouJesus
His smile makes ME smile. I mean, come on. So dang cute (besides the shaggy hair)
Here are Luke's 10 month stats:
Weight: 19 lbs 1 oz (25th %)
Height: 28.5 inches (50th %)
Clothing: 6-9 months & 9 months
Diapers: Size 4
Sleeping:  12 hours a night!!  (And, takes 2 naps a day)
 Teeth: 8 {4 bottom teeth and 4 top teeth}
 Tricks:
Crawling! All over the place! Pulls to a stand & is so proud of himself.
Crusing along furniture. Can stand on his own for 1 second.
Has learned to crawl up the stairs. YIKES.
Guess we need to start baby proofing our house. #denial
Mastered the sippy cup.
Food:
Loves his baby food. Hasn't met a food he doesn't like. Still nursing about 3 -4 times a day. Has 3 "solid" meals a day. And cherrios. Loves his cherrios. I have started incorporating more "real" food and not as much pureed baby food. With all those teeth he has no problem chewing!
Things of note:
Luke got sick last weekend. Woke up last Saturday with dark green mucous from his nose & eye (yuck!), a cough & he had a 101 fever. I took him to the Doctor & it was some sort of infection, so they put him on antibotics (for the first time) for 5 days. He is better now (although he passed on his cough & sore throat to Kate this weekend. Good times)
Also this month, Luke has started hating the bath & the pool (WHAT?!?)
But, I think that short boycott of water is over, because since it was over 100 degrees yesterday, he was finally happy in the water. And, bath time went smoothly tonight.
He is also no longer in the baby bath tub....he is officially a big boy in our tub.

STOP GROWING UP SO FAST.

I am not even going to mention that he will be ONE in just 2 months.....
CAN'T HANDLE IT.

Happy 10 months Lukey Guy, you are a true joy.

And, because a monthly update wouldn't be complete without a comparison pic:

Overall, I still think he's a mix of both girls (in my opinion), but he is looking more and more like Claire to me this month.

Also, you can still enter the Mel's Favorite Things Birthday Giveway.
I know I said it was going to end on Friday, but we had a busy weekend (swimming & playing Candy Crush. Ha!)  So, I haven't had time to pick winners yet & won't be able to until tomorrow night, so enter HERE if you haven't already!

And, also? 4 days of school left! YESSSSSSS!!!!

Luke :: 9 Months Old

9 months old today!
Crazy how fast his first year is flying by.
His monthly chair photos are getting a little harder to take....
He doesn't want to sit still.....
....And he just wants to get off the chair & GO!
Here are Luke's 9 month stats:
Weight: 18 lbs 13 oz (50th %)
Height: 28.25 inches (50th %)
Clothing: 6-9 months & 9 months
Diapers: Size 4
Sleeping:  10-12 hours a night!!
 Teeth: 8 {4 bottom teeth and 4 top teeth}
Tricks: Crawling! All over the place! Pulls to a stand & is so proud of himself.
Learning to use a sippy cup.
Food: Loves his baby food. Hasn't met a food he doesn't like. Still nursing every 4-5 hours during the day. Has 3 "solid" meals a day. And cherrios. Loves his cherrios.

Can't believe he is already 9 months...He has officially been on the outside my belly longer than he was inside.

This was a big month for Luke, became a speed crawler, learned to pull to a stand & got Dedicated.
Still a happy, go lucky guy! Loves smiling, giggling & playing with his sisters.
The ladies in the church nursery love him.

And, of course...comparison pics!
I think he still looks like a combo of both girls.

Happy 9 months Lukey Guy!
Can't believe he will be ONE YEAR OLD in 3 short months!

3.09.2013

Luke :: 7 Months Old

Luke is 7 months old today!
Still such a happy, happy, happy guy.
And, a great traveler. He did so well on our Disney trip.
(Which I will blog more about next week. This week was CRAZY BUSY. I haven't even looked at all the 1000+ photos that I took!)
Here are Luke's 7 month stats:
Weight: 17 lbs 14 oz (50th %)
Height: 28 inches (50th %)
Clothing: 6 months
Diapers: Size 3
Sleeping:  8-10 hours a night!!
Tricks: Sits up on his own like a big boy! Loves to roll & get up on all fours.
Wants to crawl SOOOO badly. Rocks on his hands & knees and scoots around backward.
Teeth: 2 bottom teeth, and I think one of his top ones is coming in, there is a little tooth bubble there.
Since he gained less than half a pound from 4 months to 6 months, my doctor wanted him to have a weight check this month. He gained over a pound this month! Yay!
He loves his food. He eats 2 meals of baby food a day.
When he sees me getting his food ready he starts squealing and going "mmmmmm".
Like Claire, he got his Daddy's long lashes. Lucky.
And, big brown eyes to go with them.
He gets so frustrated that he can't crawl. He will rock back & forth and get angry that he isn't moving.
He loves his football. And holds it in his left hand.
Maybe he'll be a lefty like Kevin & Kate?

And, because I love comparison photos, all 3 kids at 7 months:

I still think he is a combo of Kate & Claire!

Happy 7 months Lukey Guy!
You are officially closer to 1 than you are to being a newborn. Cue Tears.
