Harvesting.

Our garden started out like this 10 weeks ago:
And, look at it now:
{Check out the Week 1 Garden post HERE.}

Box #1

(herbs, green onions, onions, strawberries, watermelon, celery, cucumbers, pumpkin & carrots)
Close up of a cucumber:
And, a pumpkin! Eeek! So excited!
Box #2
(zucchini, peppers, squash & 2 cherry tomato plants & 2 yellow pear tomato plants)
Check out the zucchini:
And squash:
Cherry Tomatoes...growing like crazy:
.....turn red already! :)
My peppers have not done well at all:
All 5 pepper plants (red bell pepper, green bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, pepperochinni, anaheim pepper) are not producing & look wilted. Any expert pepper growers out have any advice?

Box #3
(5 Early Girl Tomato Plants)
Lots of green tomatoes so far:
Yesterday, Kate spotted 2 red Early Girl Tomatoes!
But, I am waiting until they are a little deeper red before I pick them...maybe later this week!
We have been harvesting since last week, this was my biggest stash:
Zucchini, squash, green onions, celery & 1 strawberry.

I can't tell you how fun it is to see the garden transform & actually produce veggies!
This is my first time growing a garden and I have no idea what I am doing, but it sure is fun!
It was the best feeling walking back there & pulling up green onions & celery from the garden & using them in a salad for our dinner!
I felt like a Woman of the Land....it was so empowering. ha!

Now, I will just impatiently wait for all my tomatoes to turn red.
The whole reason I wanted a garden was so I could have homegrown tomatoes.
There is nothing better than tomatoes straight from the garden.
Hoping they turn red quickly!

  3. Your garden looks great! We just got our first cherry tomatoes off the plant yesterday and a few banana peppers too! I love this time of year...harvesting our delicious goodies :) The only tip I have for peppers is to give them space and not let them get overcrowded. Our first year we had grown corn behind them and it took too much of the sunlight from them so they never grew. Last year we did tomatoes behind them and they grew a little better but still not great. So this year we have given them lots of their own space and they are doing great! Peppers are tricky as some years are great for them and others aren't. Good luck! Wish I could get some of the squash of yours looks delish!

  5. My garden looks a bit like an overgrown jungle right now. The weight of the tomatoes took down my cages. I have no idea what I am doing either but it's growing and I love it!!! I think you just found a new hobby: )

  8. I am so jealous. If you have any excess your neighbors here will take and eat. Maybe we can trade you some space in our garbage can for some veggies?

We LOVE backyard gardening. the kids especially get into it. and those nightly salads full of freshness are addicting.

awesome tomatoes! it's so hot in Texas... our tomatoes aren't growing much.

hmm wonder what's up with your pepper plants? sorry no expert advice here. maybe they will take off later in the summer. they do need lots of sunlight.

  13. I had one serrano pepper plant last year and it was the ugliest thing, look wilted and nearly dead it's entire life. But, it ended up producing 14 amazing (15 if you include the one some little animal tried) peppers.
