Laundry FAIL.

It's embarrassing how often I do this:

Start a load of laundry, then put it in the dryer.

Forget about it and then 3 days later discover semi-wet (smelly) clothes in the dryer.
(Because my dryer is old, it takes more than one cycle to dry everything)

Oh, the smell of your clothes when this happens...one of the worst smells ever!

Then, I have to re-wash the clothes because no amount of dryer sheets will get rid of that mildewy/damp clothes smell. *shudder*

I would like to make the excuse that I am busy with unpacking & that is why I forgot about the damp clothes in the dryer, BUT considering I do this about once a month, I can't make that excuse.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this....

  1. Nope...not the only one and that IS one of the worst smells. No way to get it out but to wash them again.

  2. I forget our laundry in the washing machine all the time! Yuck!!! The smell is awful and it doesn't seem to go away even when I rewash the clothes. :(

  3. Oh, this is a regular issue for me. I usually have to wash them on the "sanitary" setting to get the stink out. Argh. Glad I'm not the only one.

  4. I think I am more impressed that you can go 3 days without doing laundry. I swear I do at least 2 loads a day

  17. I do this all the time! I heard that if you wash it again with 1 cup of vinegar, it gets the smell out of the clothes. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know if it works.

  21. Yes...I have been married for 25 years so imagine how many times I have done the same thing. The vinegar really works, but make sure you use fabric softener too! Now I buy the vinegar in the bigger containers because it happens faster in the summer!!

  23. Oh the laundry. It never ever ends. Sigh.

I see you are in your new house now! Hooray! Hope you get a little more settled this weekend. Kate wanting to take a picture on the porch was so cute. She's adorable.

  24. Oh no...you're not alone. But my mistake is leaving them in the washer like Heather. Which is even worse when you have an HE front-loader because the whole washing machine will start to smell funky and requires a cleaning cycle. That's the dirty little secret no one told me when we upgraded to the HE washer/dryer.

  25. Yuck! I did it one time and I'll never forget how mad I was at myself! My towels were never the same again!

  26. Oh honey, no you're definitely NOT the only one who does this! I'll totally forget about the clothes in the dryer - they usually end up dry, but SO wrinkled (and I despise ironing!). I'm also bad about forgetting clothes in the washer, in which case they DEFINITELY smell bad.

  27. oh I totally do that too! and the worst part is, hubby can smell it even if I leave them there for just one day!

  28. I TOTALLY do that. My dryer is the same way, except in addition to not drying, it sounds like I have bricks in it when it is on. Sometimes I don't even remember to take it out of the washer and put it in the dryer - but, that is almost better. Because then I don't have to transfer it back to wash that smell out. LOL...

  29. Oh yes!!! I've done it too, and I even had little mold spots on mine because it was in there for a good week.
