Luke: 3 Months Old

Our little Luke is 3 months old today!
1/4 of a year....already!
He is such a happy & smiley baby!
You just look at him & he smiles right back. Boom! Heart Explosion.
He doesn't cry very much, but when he does....watch out. His cry is AWFUL.
So high pitched. It's like nails on a chalkboard. Seriously. Ha!
Here are Luke's 3 month stats:
Weight: 14 lbs 10 oz (75th %)
Height: 25 inches (75th %)
Clothing: 0-3 months & 3 months (0-3 is getting tight, so I will be washing 3-6 month this weekend)
Diapers: Size 2 (Grew out of Size 1 on 11.2.12)
He is still sleeping in our room in the pack & play.
And, he is still waking up every 3 hours at night.
My girls were horrible sleepers also, so ANY advice on how to get him to sleep longer is welcomed.
I am thinking it is time to move him to his crib in his own room.
Maybe that will help him sleep longer.
If you have any sleeping tips, leave them in the comments!
Good thing he's cute. The sleep deprivation is worth it.
Coffee in the morning, Diet Coke in the Afternoon & Wine at Night.
That's how I get through my days. Ha!
And, because I just love comparison pictures:
He is looking A LOT like Claire.
Happy 3 months Lukey Guy.
So glad you completed our family.
As Kate says, "We love you to Heaven and back"

  1. I know Luke is older that this, but you should check out 12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks Old: A Step-by-Step Plan for Baby Sleep Success. One of the families I babysit for did this program with their new baby and it seemed to work. (Although I'm not sure what the effects were once she started day care.) I'm no expert on babies, so I hope my suggestion is alright!

  3. I'm sure you know my story...I had to move the kids to their own rooms bc all their snuffy, gurgly noises kept me awake all night. Moving them into their own room cut down on my extra wakings. That was more my problem than theirs but I felt like we all slept better. I only heard them when they were really awake & ready to eat. And I would send Ben in if it wasn't time to eat. He'd settle them down without the small of delicious milk to distract them. Love you. Praying for more sleep.

  4. Wow, he looks so much like Claire!! He's such a handsome guy. Sorry about the sleep, though! I love how he is only a few days older than my nephew...I get to watch two little boys grow big!

  6. I think, when I look at his eyes, that Luke looks like his father? Oh well, the best thing is that he looks like himself ;-)
    Love still your blog.

  7. Can't say that he won't wake up every 3 hours, but moving him to the crib is the start of sleep training! Kieran and Anna were in the crib by 2 months, Tatum by 3 since I was sad she was my last-ha! Here I am with Liam and I'll likely put him in his crib at 2 months (maybe 2 1/2 ;))
By the way, Liam? 13 lbs 3 oz--super tank!
Love what Kate says about Luke, very sweet :)

  8. He does look like Claire :)

I had 5 kids sleeping through the night after just month or so. Not sure if it will work for you but here's what I did:

***Keep them up from 5pm-10pm (they get grouchy but then they are really tired by the time I went to bed).

***I nursed them every 2 hours or so between 5-10 to make sure that their belly was full

***I swaddled them VERY tight so they felt like they were being held.

*** I had a white noise machine on fairly loud to drown out any other noise.

*** If they woke up, I didn't get them right away. I let them fuss for a few minutes (longer each night). After 3-4 days they learned to just go back to sleep (and they were REALLY tired from being kept awake from 5-10).

Hope something that I said helps. Mama's need their sleep :)

    Hugs,
    Trisha

  9. I am BY NO MEANS AND EXPERT AT SLEEPING BABIES and I know that all babies are different, but Pearson was sleeping 12 hours at 12 weeks so we did something right (for him). Things we did that seemed to work.....

We moved him to his crib at 5 weeks so that I didn't wake up at the tiniest grunt and think he needed to feed. This way I only heard him if he was really hungry.

We did a dream feed at 10pm, no matter when I fed him last. This way, his tummy was full the second he went to bed.

We swaddle him very tight with a swaddle me blanket (the ones with velcro) and he never came out. He loved it!

We used the little Sleep Bear or Sheep that makes the womb sound.

And I'm a huge fan of crying it out. I know he's young, but it worked for us. Pearson never had to cry long if he woke up in the middle of the night. He could usually just put himself back to sleep without me having to even go in his room.

I think that's all. Hoping you get some sleep soon. Girl, I don't know how you do it.....work, blog, crafty stuff, parties, 3 kids. You are amazing!!!!

  10. So darn cute!!! I am the mother of 3 boys. Loved your diaper bag post. We did the pack and play thing too.. I think that depending what pack and play you are using they can tend to have a little movement. We took the crib out of the nursery , put it in the master and lived with it there for awhile- he immediately slept better, and like you by number 3 I didn't care that his crib was not in the beautiful nursery , I just wanted to savor every moment with him AND get some better sleep. Good luck to you. Love your blog.

  12. I'm not a fan of crying it out :) I do notice after three kids, that babies that tend to eat on an every 3 hour schedule during the day want to eat that way at night, too! I used to nurse my firstborn every 1.5-2 hours (she was a snacker!) and she was sleeping 8-10 hours by 8 weeks old. Jayce had reflux and didn't nurse well (only every 4 hours) so he had to make up for his calorie intake at night. Now, Joce likes to eat every 3-4 hours during the day. And still wakes up 1-2 times a night for a bottle. There is no ignoring her and she is definitely still hungry, not habit!

  13. I love your blog! We have three kiddos too (two boys, 5&3, and a little girl, 1) and they were all terrible sleepers as well. I have always said if they were superheroes they would be sleep fighters. Our daughter did not sleep through the night until she was 11 months old. And I mean up 3-4 X each night kind of crazy. She was in her crib in our room all that time and the first night we moved her into her own room she slept 12 hours straight. Of course I woke up several times waiting for her to wake.:-) So I do think being in their own space is helpful. I am not a big fan of the cry it out method. The dream feed worked well with our #2. I always joke and say that if there is any truth to the genius/need for little sleep theory, then we must have some Pascal, Einstein, Hawking kind of smarts going on here!! And one of my "lifelines" is coffee, Kombucha tea, wine...repeat! I will be praying for rest for all of you!

  14. He is just too cute for words! You have a beautiful, blessed family : ). I failed miserably at the sleeping thing with both of mine (they never even used the crib!) but I have to say they became great sleepers in their own beds when they were ready (which was probably before I was ready for them to be (truth be told) : ).

    Good luck!
