My Little Monk

Have you seen the TV Show Monk?

It is one of my favorite shows (the series ended last year, but they still show re-runs)

Kevin and I would watch Monk on Friday nights after the girls were in bed while eating pizza & drinking wine. It is such a great show! Re-runs are on all the time, so if you haven't seen it, you should DVR it!

The main character, Adrian Monk is an police detective for the San Fransisco Police Dept. (another reason we like it....it is filmed in SF!).
Monk is totally OCD & loves numbers (just like someone I know....me!)

When Kevin & I started watching the show, we laughed at all of Monk's OCD tendencies...but then it made us realize how OCD that we are and how OCD Kate is. Last year, we started calling Kate "Mini-Monk".
Kate loves things to be clean, her favorite number is 10 and Kate notices when things are out of place or missing (just like Monk).

But, this morning's actions take the cake. Kate was helping me put away her laundry. As she was looking at some of her clothes, she noticed that most of them are size 2T.
She was NOT okay with this.
Kate: "Mommy, I am 3, so I can't wear a 2T, I have to wear a 3T."
Me: 3T is too big on you & 2T fits you better.
Kate: "No. I can't wear a 2T. We need to change all my tags. Let's go find a marker." So, this is what Kate made me do to her clothes that were not size 3T.
I simply "sharpied" a 3T over the actual size.
At first, I just put a 3, put Kate insisted I put 3T.
Seriously? This girl is a riot!
I am thankful for sharpies, for they saved me from a toddler meltdown.
We only sharpied a handful of her clothes, but she wants to change the rest of them tomorrow.
Seriously, who's kid is this?!?! Actually...the apple doesn't fall far :)
I think all of us have a little OCD in us. But, I actually prefer to call it CDO, because then it is in alphabetical order!

  2. Hahahaha that's awesome. I'm so proud of her. Watching Monk made me pick up a little on his OCD tendencies. Although, hopefully I never put 2 eggs back because I'd rather buy them in 10s than 12s. Ha. What a riot.

  3. I love your mini-monk.

I organize my the extra plastic hangers in my kids' closets in ROYGBIV order. The white ones and the pastel ones throw me off so I try to keep those in the girls' closet and the primary ones in my son's closet.

    {Hanging my OCD head in shame. It's such a sickness.}

*TOTALLY cracking up that the word verification letters below spell "messie". OMGosh.

  4. That is SO funny! I love that she has to have order in her life. I wish I had a little more OCD in me...maybe then my house would be cleaner and more organize :)

  5. Hi Mel!
That is hilarious, but what I really can't get over is that your mini monk only wears size 2T!! ? Hannah must be twice her size because I think she is younger than Kate (nov 7 06?) and she wears 5T or S in the big girls section. Crazy. I guess since my hubs is 6'4 and I am 5'9 our girls are going to be very tall young ladies.

Never watched Monk but my Dad loved it. Maybe we'll try it. Right now we are netflixing Glee from Season 1.

  14. Hahaha! Maybe Kate is on to something. I kind of want to do that to my clothes too... but with the numbers going down, not up...

(P.S. We share those same OCD tendencies. I can't STAND it when something is out of place. Even an inch.)

  15. I read this yesterday and then last night EmmyKate came out of her room with a bunch of her old clothes and said "It's okay if I wear these because I can pretend to be 2 and then they will fit!" I thought it was too funny that it happened the same day I read about Kate's little OCD thing!
