It's A.....

Yesterday was our 20 week ultrasound, also known as the "Big Ultrasound".
I am always so nervous before this ultrasound.
I had so much nervous energy this weekend that I got a lot done on my 40 bags in 40 days list (which I will post about later this week).
So, back to yesterday. I was a nervous wreck all day at school. Couldn't stop praying.
On my way to the appointment I kept praying for a healthy baby.
I had tears in my eyes, I was just so nervous (I am a freak show).
When we got to the Dr's office, we were the only ones there, so we didn't even have to wait at all! (That is a first!)
And, I am happy to report that It's A......
.
.
.
.
......Healthy Baby!
We are so thankful & relieved.

I bet you are wondering if the baby is a Boy or a Girl?
That is a great question.
The answer is....
.
.
.
.
.
We didn't find out! :)

I know, I know.
Much to all our family & friends dismay,
we are those "annoying" people who wait until the baby is born.
We didn't find out with the girls, and the surprise was SO fun.
People thought we would for sure find out with this one because we already have 2 girls, so of course we would find out. But, no....we are waiting!

And, I am a TOTAL PLANNER, so it is surprising to people that I wait until birth to find out.
I was the kid growing up who would sneak peeks at my Christmas presents.
I plan my girls birthday parties almost a year before they happen.
So, yes, I am a planner.
But there are few surprises in life and there is something so magical & special about not knowing and hearing the doctor say as I birth the baby,
"It's a...........!!!"
I love, love, love that moment.

I actually had a dream last week that at our 20 week ultrasound, the dr slipped and told me what it was & I was SO upset in my dream that he told me.

So, we will wait & see what the baby is in August when he or she is born.
What we do know is that Baby Larson #3 is healthy & we Praise God for that.
We truly don't care if it is a boy or a girl.
I grew up in a family of 3 girls, so I know how fun that is.
I love my sisters more than anything. I have 2 girls, so it would be fun to have another.
I know girls, I have girly stuff.
But, on the other hand, I would love for Kevin to have a boy. And, I think it would be fun to experience having a boy since I don't have one & never had a brother. And, I love sports, so I can totally deal with a boy. But...boys scare me...It is the fear of the unknown! I mean, they have boy parts...how do you change a boy diaper?

The girls want it to be a boy. Kevin doesn't really care. He is an amazing dad of girls, but I think he wants a boy so that he doesn't have to pay for 3 weddings. Ha!

With my girls, I was pretty sure they were girls.
With this one, I am not sure! I can't make a guess yet.
Which makes me think, maybe it is a boy?!?!

All 3 pregnancies have been the same.
Horrible all day sickness & puking starting at 6 weeks and lasting until 20+ weeks.
I am living off cereal and bagels. Can't eat anything spicy.
I am worthless at night. Night is the absolute worst. Kevin is my hero and for the past 4 months taken care of me, the girls & the house. So thankful for him.

So, until August, it is a guessing game on if it is a Boy or a Girl.
What do YOU think?!?!?!

  1. Congratulations on such wonderful news! And good for you for not finding out the gender! I have 2 girls (4 and 2) and a boy (4 months) and didn't find out with any of them (annoyed the heck out of my mom! ha!). I agree that it's such an amazing moment in the hospital to hear the doctor announce who this little person is. I'm so excited for you and really hope the sickness passes soon. I was not really sick with my girls but sick for 15 weeks with my son (and stupid things like drinking a big glass of water or flossing my teeth would make me barf...UGH!) but I cannot imagine 20 weeks or more of that! I sincerely hope you are almost out of the woods! Oh and I am totally a planner too so people think it's crazy that we don't find out but you're right, there are just too few surprises in life and this is one that we fully embrace. :) How fun that you will have summer break to relax and enjoy the pool before baby arrives. Sounds like perfect timing!

  2. I was really hoping you wouldn't find out this time either. I think if we ever have a third I just might wait until the very end to find out the gender. So fun!

And as a mom of both a girl and a boy, my girl is full of spunk (just like Claire) and my boy is sweet as can be. There is just nothing like being the mommy of a little boy!

But so much fun! Congrats again, and have fun planning for baby #3!! Half way there, can't wait to hear what you guys are having.

  7. I think it is a lot of fun not to find out. We found out with my first and tried to find out with the second but he wouldn't show us. The moment he came out and they announced it was a boy was such a special moment...I absolutely get what you mean. I think you're going to have a boy. I can't wait to find out :)

  8. SO happy for you and your beautiful family! I do not want to find out if our #2 is a boy or girl, I do not know if I can hang in. We will see. I am one that wants everything to be perfect for he/she to come home but who knows....I tried my hardest with our son and finally I told my doctor..."I give up, please tell me what it is!" -- a week before he came. My husband was so ill with me! lol. But, since you say all are alike pregnancies.... it's hard to just say. I had the horrible sickness with a boy and all my friends have girls and they have never been sick...so hum, gonna guess a a BOY! ;) You need a precious baby boy to add to the mix with your beautiful girls. Praying for y'all and wishing you another great 20 weeks!!!

Summer pregnancies are h.a.r.d! Davenport was born in August and I promised myself...a winter/early spring baby next go round!

    Love, Stephany

  9. I'm glad you didn't find out. I think not knowing until the baby is born is such a fun surprise!! I'm always telling my husband that we're not going to find out when we have children, but he's taking a lot of convincing! So glad your baby is healthy!! ♥

    enjoy the mystery.
    expecting is fun...

  12. Our first time around(8 yrs ago) we chose to find out what we were having(Girl). 23 months later we chose to wait.(Girl #2)
I agree with you- the secrets of the innermost places are one of the few surprises in life:)
Congratulations that baby L is doing well!

  13. i am one of "those people" who didn't find out what the sex of my babies were either! my husband's choice, not mine, but i can't keep a secret to save my life and if i would have found out - i wouldn't have been able to hold it in! so....we waited! and i agree, i think it was the the most incredible experience that one person can have! especially with lola, we had a boy and so when they said girl it was exciting to have one of each, as we knew we were only having two babies!

can't wait for august! so glad to hear that you have a healthy baby ?!

  14. You are such a tease! I vote girl. Kevin seems like an amazing girl dad. And of course, you are an awesome girl mom. :)

  16. yay for a healthy baby. i've done it both ways... it was definitely an amazingly emotional experience finding out when you give birth! we have our ultrasound in 4 weeks and we are gonna find out this time around :)

  17. I'm a total planner and never really understood why people wouldn't find out...until now. Your explanation makes perfect sense. I get it now! A healthy baby is such a blessing. Hope you get more energy and get over the nausea soon! So, are you going to share your girl/boy names!?!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think its another girl! All 3 of my pregnancies were the same too with horrible sickness and were all girls and nights were the worst for me too. So happy everything looked great today no matter the gender!

  19. I agree...so few surprises in life...Celebrate this one

  20. So excited for you and Kevin and the girls. You have such self-control to wait. I think it's a boy. ;} I hope you are feeling MUCH better very soon.

  21. If it's a boy, you will be such a good boy mommy! You will literally fall in love with him. I love having boys.... I think God knows me well because I cannot do hair and don't like pink!! Ha!

Whatever the flavor, I am so happy for you and Kevin and wish you both the best...!

p.s. try 1/4 unisom and 1/2 B12 vitamin to help with the sickness. I took this twice a day (prescribed by my awesome midwife in Chico) and it was the only way I could function during my pregnancy- 5 months of morning sickness for me too... :(

  22. healthy is fabulous. That's all you need.
Healthy with a vagina would be really awesome too.

(oh, of course I love my boys....the peeing on the seat I can do without)

  23. Oh, Mel, congrats! I totally understand the boy fear...my boy will be 3 months April 1st (Yes, he was a New Years baby!) and it's been so crazy and so fun navigating his little boy-ness! Deciding on the circumcision, actually going through with it, wondering if it looks right?! And then his personality...he's already SO different from his big sister, I can tell he's going to be a typical, mischievous B.O.Y. He's soooo much fun though, I love him to pieces just because he's a boy and I waited so long for him! Prayers for the rest of your pregnancy!

  24. I'm so glad there is SOMEONE out there that doesn't want to know the sex. I'm like you-I don't really like surprises, but I never wanted to know the sex of my two babies. I loved hearing it's a ....and being excited!

  25. congrats on a healthy baby. That is the most important thing after all. My prediction is boy.

  26. I do agree not knowing is one of life's greatest surprises. We didn't find out with our twins and I will never forget those moments. Yay for a healthy baby! Hope your sickness subsides soon.

  30. Yay for healthy!! And yes, that is so annoying when ppl don't find out. My sister and dearest friend didn't find out for any of her SIX! How is an auntie supposed to properly shop?!?

  31. Congratulations! Another little "Larson" to enter the world-lol! We didn't find out the sex with either of our 2 kids either-it annoyed everyone but us as we love the surprise! Here's to feeling better and a healthy pregnancy and baby!!!

  32. I think it is so neat to be able to wait. I added you and baby Larson to my April prayer list. I'm a planner too and want yo make sure I do what I say. I love having three. Three is the magic number! We used to sing that when I taught third grade...congrats again!

  33. Grrrr.
Okay, I get the surprise thing.
But for those of us with no patience it's
    just a little tough. ;)

Sooooo happy you are growing a
    healthy little person!!

    xo.

  36. Boy's diapers: You are going to get wet. Prepare!! I had a son first and then a daughter. I felt the same way about diapers, except I was terrified of changing a girl's diaper! They are very different but you learn and it becomes second nature. I am guessing boy but so glad he/she is healthy!

  37. That's awesome! I have a friend who is pregnant with baby #3 right now and she is waiting to find out. She has a girl and a boy- she has always said #3 is going to be a surprise & she is going all natural with the birth this time. I wish I could have waited on either of my girls, but I am a planner and I just couldn't do it. I just had to know with my 1st so I could prepare and with the 2nd I just had to have a gender reveal party... If we ever have a baby #3 I will definitely keep it a surprise. Love your blog- I have been blogging about my 40 bags in 40 days- it's so much work- I am so impressed how much you've done! Especially with 2 kids/job/pregnant... You're my hero :)

  38. I didn't find out with my first and don't plan to find out with my second either. It drives me crazy when people say, I couldn't do that, I'm too much of a planner. I think they really mean, I'm too much of a control freak! :) It's not liek I didn't plan-in fact, I have to plan twice as much-for a boy and a girl! I love the surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Healthy baby is all that is important in the long run. I think, if we were to ever have another, I'd let it be a surprise this time. Seeing as we already have two girls and a boy, we already know what it's like to be expecting each. Can't wait for this little bundle to be here and see what those big sisters will have to help take care of!

  40. Congrats on a healthy baby! You're absolutely right--it's one of the few TRUE surprises left in life. We didn't find out with the first three and I LOVED it!! I was outvoted for the last two...and as nice as it was to know the gender early--it doesn't hold a candle to being surprised!!
